SWINE FLU SYMPTOMS AND PRECAUTIONS

Swine flu is an acute and highly contagious disease, this disease is more common in swine or pigs. It is a contagious disease and can spread from one human to another. This virus was first detected this year in human beings in April 2009. Since then we have a lot of cases of people who are affected by Swine Flu. Those who have heart and lung diseases are more prone to Swine flu.

The Symptoms of Swine flu are similar to those of normal influenza or flu:

  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Severe Headache
  • Body aches
  • Fatigue
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Weakness
  • General Discomfort

The swine flu in human beings is most contagious during the first five days of illness and for children it will be contagious for the first ten days. There are various ways by which this swine flu spreads. Between humans it spreads through sneezing or through cough. It also spreads if you happen to touch a surface of anything which has the virus on it and then touching your own nose or mouth. It does not spread through food if properly cooked. The swine flu virus can stay live on a hard surface for 24 hrs and on a soft surface for 20 minutes.

Precautions to be taken to avoid Swine Flu:

  • Frequently washing hands with soap can reduce the risk of swine flu, especially when you are in a public place. Washing hands with soap may kill the most of the germs.

  • Keep your home clean with daily wiping it using bleach especially your wash area and your kitchen.

  • Clean the surfaces of everything like TV, Refrigerator etc to get rid of the germs

  • Do not touch your nose or mouth frequently unless you wash your hands properly with soap.

  • Use tissues whenever you are sneezing or coughing and throw the tissue in the dust bin immediately after using.

  • If you do not have a tissue handy, turn your face and put your hand covering your side while sneezing or coughing and immediately wash your hands with soap.
  • Maintain basic hygiene, and try to get a minimum of 8 hours of good sleep so that your immune system will be intact to fight with it.

If you are already a victim of the virus:

  • First contact your doctor so that he can take the samples and send it to the appropriate lab where the swine flu testing can be done.

  • Avoid frequent contacts with your family and friends.

  • Take a leave and be at home, do not go to the office/school/college.

  • Cover your nose and mouth so that while sneezing or coughing the virus will not be transmitted.

  • Everyone in the house should make a habit of washing hands frequently.

  • Take complete rest so that the immune system of your body can fight well with the virus.

CAT 2009 GOES ONLINE

CAT 2009 goes online Common Admission Test more commonly know as CAT is an entrance exam for admission into the post graduate and fellowship programs offered by various management institutions across India. Among these institutes, Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are the most prestigious institutes who offer post graduate and fellowship programs. CAT percentile is also considered by many other B-schools for short listing the candidates for GD and PI. Typically the admission to most of the B-schools in India is done in three different phases. The first would be the entrance exam, then GD and PI. Nearly 2 Lakh students appear for CAT every year and less than ten thousand would get a call from IIMs.So most of the aspirants who appear for the CAT, think that it is impossible to get in to top 8000 who probably may grab an IIM call. But then one must understand that not all the students who pay the application fees and apply for CAT are completely serious about the exam.

Types of students who appear for CAT:

  • Students with Casual Attitude: Many of the students take CAT just because somebody else is also appearing, or because it’s a fad and once you graduate from IIMs you will get fat packages of salary. These people live in their own world and never realize the importance of the entrance exam.

  • Students with lack of confidence: A huge number among the 2 lakh junk falls in this category. They do not believe in themselves and still want to get admitted in to the IIMs. The first thing you should have is confidence and belief in yourself. If you do not believe in yourself then how can you expect IIMs to believe in you and give you admission? They will not even bother about you if you do not have self confidence.

  • Forced aspirants: In this category, the student is not interested but is forced to give CAT. He don’t even target the IIMs saying “its not my cup of tea.” But then if you see, most of the questions asked in CAT are based upon the topics which we studied in our school. You need not have to be genius in every field to crack CAT.

  • Serious but not focused: This category is of those students who are serious about CAT but are really scared and worried for nothing. Though if they wish they can do it, they waste their time in worrying about nothing.

  • Serious & Focused: These are the students who give tough competition to every CAT aspirant. They know they can do it and work hard to achieve it. So the real CAT competition is among this category student only.

Now you decide for yourself, how many students fall in each category and in which category you fall and prepare accordingly.

CAT 2009

CAT 2009 is likely to be an online test similar to GMAT. This year they are planning to take an online test in the span of 10 days. Daily three slots will be there and the test will be conducted for ten long days. So in all 30 different tests will be conduct across India in the span of ten days. Every test shall have a different set of question paper. But then the difficulty level for each test would be more or less similar.

Advantages of online test:

  • There will be more than 200000 aspirants who will appear for CAT 2009. Online test will save a lot of time for correcting the papers and give out the results.
  • CAT is conducted only once in a year, may be once it become online aspirants will have a chance to appear for CAT for more than one time in a year.
  • In a long run, the marginal cost to add a new aspirant to give the test will be lesser.

Disadvantages of online test:

  • The test is conducted in the span of ten days and every day you will have three different slots, it means that there will be 30 different test papers at least. Though the authorities may take good care that the entire 30 question paper sets will have similar difficult level still there is a slight chance of partiality towards the aspirants.
  • People who are from remote areas and do not have frequent access to internet, for them traveling to the test center would be a hindrance.
  • Also those aspirants, who are well versed with internet and the advance technologies, will have an edge on the others.
  • It will be difficult for the students to go back to the question which is left unattempted.
  • In RC most of the students are habituated with underlining and circling important words or phrases, in online test it may not be possible.

  • Also for the rough work, in a offline paper-pencil test, you can do it on the question paper itself but in online test it will be difficult.

CAREER ADVICE-II

Career advice - MBAConsidered to be one of the most prestigious degrees around the world, Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is a post-graduate degree awarded to those who learn and master the skills of managing a business. As it is related to any business and not just a specific field, it attracts students from varied backgrounds.

In an MBA program, students study various applications of management principles, which are sure to be helpful in real life business situations. More than half of the MBA course concentrates on general management applicable to any business. The other part is a specialization in an area of one's choice.

Primarily one can specialize in the following areas in MBA:

1. Marketing
2. Finance
3. Human Resources
4. Information Technology
5. Operations

Now, what really makes MBA special...

1. Money: For many MBA aspirants, joining the course is nothing but an investment. They simply calculate the ROI before hand and then decide to join any college. In these cases, the main reason to join MBA is the pay package you are likely to get.

2. Education: It’s not just a matter of money; you can also see a drastic change in your own personality. You can feel the difference once you complete your MBA. You will get to learn a lot. Of course it depends on how serious you are while you are doing your MBA and from where you are doing it.

3. Launch pad for a great career: People say that there is no shortcut for success, but I think that MBA is a shortcut for your career. Simply put, a graduate with half decade of experience will hardly be given as much preference as a person with an MBA degree.

Now, let me list reasons why you really must opt for a course of this sort. But before I go on to list reasons of my own, here are a few I managed to accumulate from a sizable group of students who are pro-MBA. Some good, some not so good, here are they nevertheless:
  • I want to pursue MBA because my dad asked me to do so
  • I want a very good salary and I am told that I will get one once I finish MBA
  • Just because everyone is doing, I am also interested to join
  • I think there is a huge demand for people with MBA in the market
  • I have nothing to do so thought to finish my MBA
  • For the sake of an additional degree.
  • I am too young to go for a job so I want to do MBA and then look for a job
  • The Return On Investment (ROI) which I will get on MBA is higher when compared to the other degrees
There really will be many more reasons, but reasons such as these aren't really enough. One should really understand what difference an MBA degree can make in one's career path and personality.

What recruiters look in an MBA grad?

If you are applying for a job on your MBA degree, then you must understand what exactly companies expect from MBA grads. The main reason why companies recruit MBA grads is to maximize their profitability with minimum resource utilization. Be it any specialization, an MBA grad is expected to use his management skills which he/she has learned in college and fine tune the business.

The following are some of the qualities which recruiters look for in an MBA grad:

Fast Learner: MBA grads are expected to be very fast learners. It is not necessary that one will get a job in the field of his choice. For most MBA grads, the role and industry they join as soon as they complete their degree is a complete new world. But the two years education behind them is sure to give them enough understanding about the general management in any business. The key lies in quickly understanding the business and industry to produce maximum output.

Resource Management: Once you join an organization you are expected to utilize the resources effectively. The mantra is 'minimum resources and maximum output'. One must have the ability to utilize the resources well. The subordinates are also resources of the company; one should also have the ability to manage people.

Business Development: Be it any specialization (HR, Finance, Marketing) MBA grads are always expected to be working towards the growth of the company as a whole. If you are an MBA grad hired by a company and you are not contributing much for the growth of the company, then there will not be any difference between a normal graduate and an MBA. So your presence should always be felt in the organization.

Ready to Accept New Challenges: Every organization prefers a person who readily accepts challenges. For a fresher, it is very much important to understand his role in the organization. As soon as the training period ends, the entire focus comes on performance. The more successfully you complete challenging tasks, the more you are valued in the organization.

These were some of the major things recruiters look for in an MBA grad, so if you are joining an MBA course make sure you concentrate on all these things and work on these lines to get an edge over others.

HOW TO FACE AN INTERVIEW- INTERVIEWEE SPEAK

How to face an interview - interviewee speaksSidharth Dugar shares with WriteYup his debut at the big stage!

"I started giving interviews when I hadn’t even crossed my high school. Somewhere down my heart, I knew that I would never do a BPO job as my interest lay somewhere else. Nevertheless, I still went about giving interviews in different job fairs, sometimes going directly to companies and a time or two at placement consultancies. Essentially, my aim in pursuing this ‘crazy’ interest was to develop in me the confidence to sit in front of any professional and speak sense. Other motives were to improve my spoken English, eye-contact and body language. My first company hired me as I managed to hit the sweet spot with the HR who interviewed me (no, it wasn’t a female).

And after giving 19 interviews and cracking 16 of them (3 of which hit the road block due to my age and language hindrance), I believe I am 'experienced' enough to offer a handful of tips and suggestions to people reading this.

My first interview at a job fair:

I was a bit skeptical about getting through this interview. Perhaps, first time jitters. A reputed college served as the venue for the job fair. I reached the gates and found the registration counters bustling with people wearing formals. Oops! I was, probably, the very few in casuals. The registration form filled, I headed towards a company, an IT giant which was eager to take in employees even after mentioning that it had 19000 employees across the globe.

Entering the door of a classroom-turned-interview hall, I was handed over a sheet to fill-in. Having done it quickly, I returned it back to the in-charge. I was soon called for the first round which was a personal interview session. I talked about myself in brief; about my education, interests and hobbies and the ‘nil’ experience I possessed. Then, I was asked to leave the room and wait for the results.

The 40 minute wait was a fruitful one as I had cleared the round and had to prepare for the next round. The next round was a telephonic interview round which was to basically check clarity of speech. The person speaking to me politely asked, “First time?” I said, “Yes”. He then asked, “Nervous?” and “No, not at all!” was the instant reply. Thinking that it was too spontaneous, I now was a bit nervous.

The speaker then gave me a topic to speak on for a minute (I could choose any topic I wanted; though a specific topic could also have been given). I spoke for a while on the most recent movie I'd seen, probably more than a minute as I was interrupted by the speaker to pass on the line to the available HR manager. Handing over the phone to the HR who spoke in a hushed voice, I thought that this round was the end of my interview.

The very next instant, I reprimanded myself for this; brushed aside the thought and said that I had to clear this and that I have done well. After keeping me on a wait for 10 minutes, the HR came smiling and said that I had cleared the round and was through to the 3rd and the final round. Being modest, I replied that I didn’t think I would make it.

The third and the last round begun. I was sitting in front of a rather cheerful senior human resource (HR) manager. I acknowledged his gesture by doing the same (remember, politeness and cheerfulness pays; but overdose of anything could be harmful). He was constantly writing something on printed sheets of paper. He then informed me about the pay (the pay usually starts at 8000-9000 for a fresher in an average company) and the earliest date when I could join their organization.

This actually means -at least to me- that the last round is the one when they just make it official to say that you are selected. I was elated. I had cleared the first interview of my life scoring a 10 on 10 with my inner conscience. Another enlightenment was that casual or formal dressing doesn’t matter at a BPO or call center interview, as long as you are good at what you are doing. Who is going to see you over a phone anyway!"

CAREER ADVICE

career adviceBuilding the future of your child is essential. Once a child is done with his schooling, parents tend to decide his future without taking into consideration the interests of the child. I have seen many parents feeling gung ho by just admitting their child into expensive courses only to ensure they become a doctor or an engineer. Medicine and Engineering are often assumed to be the only career fields that offer success and growth. That, is actually not the case.

Here's one option you can go for instead of treading the beaten to death path. Mass Communication and Media include introduction to communication, mass media and society, reporting, writing, editing and public relations. Courses related to Mass Communication and Media help in not just the overall development of a child but also give him lots of exposure to what has happened, what is happening and what is going to happen.

These courses help students become professionals with skills to conceive and manage audio-video production over radio or television. They help students get into areas of radio broadcasting, production of programs on radio and television. They also help in developing innovative thinking and encourage creative thought process.

Courses related to Multimedia and Internet Publishing equip students with skills in using the Internet as a digital medium to communicate effectively. They deal with the possibility of using Internet as medium of conversation, along with discussing journalistic ethics and professional issues involved in journalistic writing for Internet. Journalistic tools like structure of online articles, writing for the Internet, story-telling and packaging help the learner with various additional, interactive and cross media options for web sites.

The best thing about these courses is that they have intensive practical training classes along with theoretical ones. Students can write, generate and manage online content- articles, pictures, audio, video and interactive elements using multimedia packages. Since these courses are journalistic in nature, the technical skills involved focus on this aspect alone.

Students who perform well have more than a good chance to get picked up by big broadcasting organizations as trainees with a handsome paid stipend, setting them well on their way to be independent media professionals- some time, some day!

8 QUALITIES OF A BUDDING ENTREPRENEUR

Qualities of a budding entrepreneurExperienced or not, anybody who starts a business does it with the idea of making it a big success. Though success cannot be guaranteed, there are a few qualities that -if incorporated- can set you on the path to success.

Investment Mentality: An individual who is raring to be an entrepreneur in any field should have an investment mentality. Typically, an ex-employee working to be an entrepreneur is very likely to not be aware of business needs and the investments that come with it since his boss provides him with all that is needed to get a job done.

An entrepreneur, in contrast, must believe in the farmers' concept of sowing and reaping. A farmer sows the seeds, does the watering and all things required for the crop to grow before he expects any harvest at the end of the year. He never ponders or mulls over the time and effort he spends in growing his crop. He never regulates his effort on the basis of what it is likely to yield at a given time. He is eager for returns but is patient enough to wait for the right time- the time when he can harvest his crop. Likewise, the entrepreneur must invest time, money and effort, getting away from the traditional mentality. Only at the end of it should he look for the result, a return on the investments he's made.

Set a goal and have a plan: Set a goal for yourself. Decide what you want to achieve. An entrepreneur without a goal is like an athlete without a set target in his race for glory. Without a target, the athlete will have no idea as to how fast he is to run. A set goal, in contrast, will help him strategize and plan his speeds accordingly.

You must always set goals for yourself. Put in what you want to achieve by the end of the month and then, at the end of the year. Based on this, you can chalk out a weekly and daily plan to decide what's to be done in these shorter time periods to achieve your long term goals. Plan right because that's as good a beginning as you can make.

Learn to love people: All businesses deal with people. People could be your customers, employees, partners, competitors or target audiences. Each of these groups are, in some way or the other, assets for your business.

If you don’t like to talk to people, try and develop the skill. There is nothing that you cannot achieve if you desperately want to. If you like your employees, they will like you and the work they are doing. Learn to look at the best in them. After all, these people generate business for you. It's a mutual relationship: if you look after them, they will look after your business.

Enjoy what you are doing: It's simple: if you don’t like what you're doing, you can’t continue with it. Enjoy your work, and all that you do. Show some excitement and passion. Attitude is infectious. If you reflect the right attitude, everyone associated with your business will reflect the same. Enjoy your work and make sure people around you enjoy theirs too.

Be customer-oriented: Customers are the people who generate business for you. Get into their shoes and view things their way to estimate what they look for from your business. If they are satisfied, they will market you and your business. And all for free. Getting more business from an existing customer is always easier than securing an entirely new customer. Be more of a friend than a businessman to a customers. Make them like you. If they like you, they will like your products and give you more business.

Identify the right people to work with: The key to your business lies in identifying the right people to work with. As an entrepreneur, identify people who are willing to put in as much effort as you. Build a good rapport with them. Be a good friend than a boss. Know more about their family and be friendly with them. Build long term relationships. Having occasional informal meetings like a small gathering or a weekend party will benefit your business no end.

Make some bad decisions: A businessman needs to make lots of decisions. If you are an entrepreneur with very little or no experience, not all decisions you make may be good for your business. Initially, some of these may backfire or create hindrances for your business. Just be a good learner all the time and don’t repeat your not-so-good decisions any time again. Experience accumulated over a period of time is the best teacher. After all, nobody has failed as many times as a successful person.

Success is always a minority: Establishing a successful business demands that you put in cent percent effort on every single factors required to build it. The 80-20 rule holds ground in all cases. As Napoleon Hill said: The ladder of success is never crowded at the top.

Only 20% of the people make it to the top: meaning, they succeed. Everybody wants to succeed, but only 20% of the people who start off, actually succeed. These are the ones who do the right thing, the right way, and make the right decisions.

ON PAGE OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES

On Page OptimizationSearch engines are getting cleverer by the day. Today, search engines take into consideration hundreds of factors before returning the results as they appear when you search by typing your search phrase. Search engines consider factors both on page and off page to rank web pages in search results. Optimizing on page factors is completely in your hands. If you do it well, your ranking in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) will increase by leaps and bounds.

Here's an exhaustive list of various on page factors to optimize for various search engines, particularly Google.

Keywords in page title: Search engine bots read page title and decide what your web page is all about. The content of the title tag also appears in the first line of your search result. So, if you are looking to optimize your web page, have keywords in the page title. Put keywords in the beginning of the title tag. Create unique page titles for each page of your website, accurately describing the content of the page. Place the title tag immediately below the starting head tag. Don’t exceed the number of characters in the title beyond 60 characters. Limit the use of stop words as bots ignore them.

Type intitle: [keyword] in Google search engine to search for pages having your keywords in their page title.

Keywords in URL: Search engine bots look for keywords in the webpage URL too. If your keywords consist of two or more words, separate keywords with a hyphen, as space is not allowed within a URL. Search engine bots consider hyphenated words as separate words. Make sure you don’t overdo it with excessive hyphens in the URL as bots may consider this as spamming.

Search for web pages having your keywords in their URL, by typing allinurl: [keyword] in Google Search engine.
keywords in domain name for on page optimization

Keywords in domain name: The lift provided by having keywords in domain names is small. If you want to have a domain name with your primary keyword in it, the domain name is bound to be long and you will need to be extremely lucky to get a domain name with just the primary keyword in it. If your keyword has two or more words in it, separate these words with hyphens.

Keywords in heading tags [H1, H2, H3]: Keywords in heading tags have more weight than keywords appearing in the page content. Organize page content appropriately by making use of heading tags in the right places.

Keywords in meta description tag: This tag describes your web page to search engines. Search engines use the meta description tag to get a summary of the page. Text from this tag is also used as description for your web page in the search engine results page. The description tag must be unique for each page and must accurately summarize the content of the page. Use a maximum of 200 characters in the meta description tag.

Keywords in meta keywords tag: The meta keywords tag doesn’t have much value in terms of optimization as it is prone to stuffing. Nevertheless, this tag helps search engines know the theme of your page. Make sure you put keywords which are present in the content of your page. Try not to include more than 10 keywords in this tag.

Keywords in IMG tag's ALT attribute: Search engine bots cannot read text in images. Describe the image in the ALT attribute of IMG tags. If you are to use keywords in the ALT attribute, make sure you place them at the beginning. Don’t crowd the ALT attribute of every IMG tag within your page with unnecessary words.

Keywords in link anchor text: Keywords in link anchor text (external and internal) on your page tell search engine bots about your page and pages to which the links point. If appropriate, link keywords in page content too.

keywords in page content for page optimizationPage Content: Content is king. It is the text on the page which is crawled by search engine bots. Bots cannot read images and flash elements. Provide unique content and services on your website. Update content on a regular basis. The frequency at which your page gets crawled depends on the frequency of your updates. If you want search engine bots to visit your pages regularly, keep updating your web pages by adding new and unique content frequently.

Format page content: Bold, italicize and underline keywords within the content wherever necessary. Uppercase the first letter of each word within the keyword. If possible, put keywords in bulleted lists.

Website Directory Structure: Keep a flat directory structure in your website and keep pages as close to the root domain as possible.

Keyword density: Keyword density is the ratio of the search phrase to the total number of words in the page. Don’t overdo it. If the keyword density is high, search engines may decide to ignore the page. Place keywords throughout the website. If a keyword occurs frequently in pages of your website, your site will be considered more relevant for that keyword. Optimize a page with respect to your primary keyword and spread other keywords throughout the page.

Keyword proximity: If you have a keyword phrase instead of a single keyword, then try placing the words adjacent to each other as this is best for optimization.

Keyword prominence: Keyword prominence refers to the placement of a keyword within a page or tag. The prominence of a page within a page component is also important. A word near the top of the page is more prominent than one near the bottom. Words at the beginning of page elements - like title, description and body- are considered to be more important.

validity of all internal and external links for on page optimization

Validate all the links on the web page: Validate every external and internal link on your web page. Any link on your web page should not be pointing to a page which does not exist anymore.

Link stability over time: Avoid link churn. Link churn is the extent to which one or more links provided by the document change over time. It is basically the rate at which a link or its anchor text change from an origin page or document.

Site Age: Search engines give more value to older websites than newer ones. Newer pages on an older site will get faster recognition. New content added frequently to an old website has good value in terms of optimization.

Site Navigation: Search engines use site navigation to estimate the importance of content on a website. It also helps search engines understand the role of a web page with respect to the website on the whole. Use a sitemap on your website. A sitemap helps search engines easily discover the pages of your website.

ARTICLE WRITING CHECKLIST

article writingArticle writing is one the most effective ways to market your website or blog online. All you've to do is write quality articles and submit them to article directories. Visitors who like your article then post the same on their blogs or websites with a referral link to your blog. Yup, it's as simple as that!

If you happen to be a blogger or webmaster looking for means to popularize your website, or one with a good command over the English language, then article writing is one thing you must seriously give a shot. By the way, if you're new to all this and need some extensive help with writing articles, then here's something you can refer to: Beginner's Guide To Article Writing.

For your convenience, here's a simple checklist for writing articles.

  • Be original. Develop a style of your own. To be unique, you've to be yourself.

  • Have a clear purpose. Let your readers know what you’re going to tell them.

  • Talk to your reader. Talk on paper. Use ordinary words, personal pronouns, plenty of contractions and punctuations.

  • Keep it simple, keep it informal. Your reader mustn’t be taxed when reading your article. Avoid technical jargon.

  • Organize content into sections and show your reader the pattern of your article. Use headings, sub-headings, bullets and other lists.

  • Present information in small chunks. Large chunks of information don’t appeal to readers. Less is more.

  • Include the most important information in the first sections of your article. Leave out everything else that is not relevant or required.

  • Use examples to explain ideas. Include brief stories, experiences and comparisons.

  • Thoroughly proofread before you post. Check for errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity and content.

  • Implement the 4 Cs. Your writing must be clear, concise, correct and compelling.

BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO ARTICLE WRITING

article writingArticle writing is in vogue. Be it for optimizing websites or blogs, sharing information or building product awareness, articles are written by the dozen every minute of the day. There are professional writers who do it, there are also bloggers who do it; sometimes people who've hardly any experience at article writing put pen to paper and produce hugely popular stuff. And then, there are also some of us who want to write but aren't quite able to decide what to write on.

For the first few articles you write, follow a set pattern, a guideline system. Doing this, you won't have to start from the scratch each time since you'll have an outline or framework to build your article upon. Treat your article like an essay. As with essays, have a skeletal structure of 4-5 paragraphs, each with at least five sentences. Introduce the idea in the first paragraph and keep the conclusion to the last one. The largest portion, the body of your essay, must contain the main argument and supporting sentences.

Select a topic that could be of potential use to a large section of your audience. Take care to choose one that you're good at yourself. There's hardly any point in writing an article on English grammar if you're a computer programmer.

Topic decided, brainstorm and come up with a headline for your article. Don't spend hours trying to come up with a super-duper headline. If you really cannot think of one that you think is awesome, keep one of the trial headlines as makeshift. Have a headline that is simple and clear. Your reader must get a reasonably good idea about the article just by reading the headline. Include bait, something that is going to entice the reader to read more than just the headline. 5 Unique Ways to Free Link Building is sure to get you more readers than a simple Link Building Ideas or plain Link Building.

Introduce your article to your audience with a general statement. Consider you are writing an article on How To Write Blogs. Begin with a very general statement about blogs; perhaps something along the lines of how popular blogging is, or how bloggers have redefined the idea of self-expression. Next, associate blogging with writing and how important it is for a blogger to write well. With this, you've not just introduced your topic to the reader, but have also created a sense of anticipation.

A big chunk of your article falls under the body of the essay. Back your introductory statement with specific examples and sound reasoning. Mention why it is imperative for a blogger to write engaging posts. Elaborate and explain how he can do so. Include, if possible, what he must avoid. These ‘steps’ ensure better reader-understandability.

In the next paragraph, list all that he stands to gain by writing well. Make it as clear and simple as possible. Present your idea as being entirely easy-to-implement. Never resort to assuming or exaggerating facts just to drive your point home. People who read your articles are likely to be just as intelligent, and at times, more gifted than you are. Adopting the wrong methods will only pull you down the credibility scale.

Conclude your essay with a paragraph that reiterates the statement you made in the first. It may not always be necessary to conclude each time you write. Sometimes open ended essays fare much better than tightly packed ones.

P.S.: Note that there is no formal conclusion to this one. It isn’t required; and so, it isn’t there.

MORE UNIQUE WAYS TO ADVERTISE OFFLINE

offline adverting and marketingAdvertising offline can be a great way to build public awareness with regards to your business and website. In addition to the methods mentioned in 10 Great Ways to Offline Advertising, here are 10 other methods you can experiment with and implement to effectively advertise yourself offline.

  • JOIN PROFESSIONAL GROUPS: Join professional groups relevant to your business field. Actively participate and expand your business and social circle. Engage in quality conversation and mention your online presence without sounding to pompous.

  • POSTCARDS AND SEASONAL GREETINGS: Print postcards and greeting cards with your business logo and URL. Send these out periodically as seasonal greetings to your customers and target audience. Very often, little gestures such as these go a long way in enhancing consumer-vendor relationship.

  • INTERVIEWS: Get interviewed by a TV channel, a radio station or even a popular newspaper. Mention everything about your business that your target audience may have considerable interest in. Interviews of this sort will help you substantially in creating brand value for your product.

Alternatively, call on radio shows and have a few interesting things to say. Generate a good discussion and be keen on saying the right things, the right time. Oh, and remember to mention your web address casually.

  • ROAMING ADS: Have a catchy ad on large vehicles such as buses, trucks or vans. These vehicles cover large distances and are sure to roam all over your town and city sometime or the other. Have a shot of your website on the vehicle as this is very likely to grab onlooker attention. Hardly anyone does it and you’re sure to attract some seriously inquisitive visitors on your website.

  • WORD OF MOUTH: Perhaps the most effective of all advertising and marketing methods, word of mouth can do wonders to your campaign. Spread the word amongst one and all in your business and social circle. Send and generate good vibes with regards to your business and company. Since WoM is more or less a recommendation on the lines of a must-try, it is more often than not, very effective.

  • LEAVE YOUR STAMP: Sign guest books in all hotels, restaurants and malls you visit. If you've something good to write about the place, do it. As a byline, include your name and web address. Never know, but you could land a client or two via this.
If you’re very, very desperate, these may just about interest you:
  • ON-ROAD PROMOTION: Have your logo and URL printed on stickers and put them up on all vehicles you and your employees use. Maybe some day, some time, some soul might cast a glance or two. Or, if you think you can manage it without being booked, have a special number plate made for your car with your logo and website URL neatly tucked in somewhere along the identification numbers.

  • PROMOTHON: Never heard of this one? Well, it’s simple: a marathon that you run with no other intention than to promote your online presence. Every city has one of these coming up virtually every other month. Wear a tee with your business logo and URL and you’re sure to grab some attention.

  • PUBLICITY STUNTS: Just do something that is sure to grab media attention. Something unique, a never-before kinda thing. Once you get noticed by the media, they'll make sure all and sundry notice you too.
And if you’re really, really, really desperate, this one could be a made-for-you-alone sorta idea:
  • SELF CAMPAIGNING: What better way than to endorse and promote your business in everything you do? Put up a signboard or banner near your house with your business logo and URL. Paint the outside walls of your house with the same. Carve out your web address on a hand or leg; have a haircut that spells out your web address, if you’d like…
Oops, too much and too desperate. You'll probably do good without giving this one a shot!

8 ESSENTIAL COPYWRITING TIPS

CopyWriting tipsThe difference between a successful and a not-so-successful ad campaign is often the ad copy. Copywriting can be simple, if you approach it the right way. Building on Copywriting Tips mentioned previously, are these 8 essentials you need to keep in mind when writing a copy.

  • Always personalize your copy. Put yourself in the shoes of the consumer. Instead of using 'you' while addressing your consumer, try using 'I' to give your copy a personal touch.

  • Make it conversational. Write a copy as if you are personally speaking to your consumer. Tell him about the product, and what is in it for him. This makes a consumer associate himself with the product quickly and easily.

  • Try to build the skeleton of the copy by studying the product and its services. Talk to people who know about the product. Take their verdict. Try listing all points on which you could sell the product and also benefits associated with it. Make an outline that can function as the foundation for the ad copy.

  • A good copywriter should be a very good salesman. As consumers and their culture vary from one area to another, a copywriter should know how to convince consumers depending on their demographics. A good salesman speaks well and convinces the consumer and a good copywriter does the same through his writing.

Always write whatever it takes to make a sale. The more informative the copy, the more the sale. Don’t cut short a copy unless you feel it would generate a lead or sale. Always try to give complete information about the product.

  • Address your copy to a single consumer always. The copy should be direct and clear. One big advantage a copywriter has as compared to a salesman is that he hasn't to be face to face with his consumer when doing his job. A copywriter gets to draft, then review, incorporate changes, consider and even take feedback before the copy gets to his consumer.

  • You could make your copy humorous but keep in mind that if the humor misfires, the ad and the product would fall under serious jeopardy.

  • One of the easiest methods to grab attention to use quotes in your copy. Make sure the quote is relevant and short. Since consumers associate directly with quotes, your copy will be more effective.

  • Another effective method is to ask questions. This creates an interest in the consumers' mind and he will yearn to know the answer to quell his curiosity.

10 GREAT WAYS TO ADVERTISE OFFLINE

offline advertising and marketingIntensive marketing and advertising is the need of the hour for non-established online businesses. Today, merely advertising and marketing a business online isn’t quite enough. Out of the box thinking is, most certainly, the best method to fight it out in the mega competitive world.

Aggressive online promotion is a good way to market your business venture. But online promotion, in some way or the other, is what nearly everyone does. To get noticed and make a mark, you’ve to think different, do different and be different. To be that one step ahead of your competitors, you'll need to adopt an entirely new method: advertise and market your business offline.

Offline advertising can go a long way in creating a brand factor as also substantially marketing a website. For one, you’ll have a much larger base to target. The more people you introduce your website to, the more visitors are you likely to get. What more, you’ll generate traffic from sources different than the ones your competitors tap. So in all likelihood, you’ll have a huge target base at hand, with hardly anybody to compete with.

There are scores of methods you can put to use; there really is no end to creativity, is there?! Use some of the ones mentioned here or come up with concepts of your own to announce your online presence to the offline world.
  • BANNERS AND SIGN BOARDS: Put up banners in places where your target audience are regulars. Perhaps a super market you visit regularly, or a gym you frequent; a club, a sauna or a parlour. It can't get better if these happen to be places you visit often too. A good friend here and there and you might not even have to shell out much valued green bills!

  • CLASSIFIEDS AND YELLOW PAGES: Book yourself space in yellow pages and classifieds. Come up with some good copy for your ad since there'll be plenty others on the same page. The idea is to grab your audiences' attention and, at the same time, impress them with whatever little you get to say.

  • PRESS RELEASES: Again, come up with a good press release that adequately covers your business, products and success story. Mention your website URL and keep it as simple as possible. Take care not to come up with run-of-the-mill stuff as nobody's gonna bother reading it.
  • SPONSOR EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS: You’ve a steady business and the one thing you need is public awareness with regards to it. One good way to do this would be by sponsoring a couple of events or exhibitions that are expected to attract masses. As the title or associate sponsor, you’re more than likely to grab people’s attention.

  • ANSWERING MACHINE AND CALL WAITING: Include your website address in the message on your answering machine. And set the same on your line holding and call waiting instead of a boring tune, jingle or message.

When clients call, ask if they've access to the net and send them over to your website to have a hands-on experience. As added incentives, you can offer free consultation and/or discounts on orders placed through your website.

  • OFFER DISCOUNTS, FREE STUFF AND OTHER GOODIES: Free coupons and discounts are a great way to engage your target audience. People may know zilch about your business but the prospect of tucking in some free goodies is sure to attract them to your website.

  • STATIONERY: Use your website logo and URL every time you send e-mails or letters. Have corporate stationery printed. Apart from looking professional, this'll also give your recipient the chance to check out your website and get to know more about your business. Goes without saying that you’re to have your website logo and URL on your business card too.
  • PROMOTIONAL ITEMS: Purchase items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, scribbling pads, attractive calendars, diaries or even cute stuff such as pens and pencils. Put on your logo and website URL and send them to people you know: relatives, friends, friends of friends, and even your clients. You could also send a box of goodies for festivals and other special events.

Another good idea would be to print bookmarks with catchy or witty one liners, accompanied by your business logo and URL. Have these distributed in book stores, libraries, coffee shops and other such places. People who frequent these places are sure to take note of this unique method.

  • CONDUCT FREE CLASSES/ SEMINARS: Spend time and organize a seminar or a series of classes on topics related to your business and its overall functioning. Make sure you select areas that will be of potential use to your target audience. People who enjoy and benefit from these classes are more than likely to tell others about your business and website. You can couple these classes or seminars with free demos of your products and services.

  • PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL EVENTS: Participate and speak at local events in your city or town. People often recognize public speakers as experts in their fields. You'll hardly have to convince anyone with regards to your business or website once they revere you as an expert!

HOW BLOGGING CAN MAKE YOU A GOOD WRITER

bloggingBlogging can do many things to you as an individual: it makes you express yourself, it connects you with people you’re hardly likely to come across otherwise, it makes you more wise, it makes you more social, and among other things, it also makes you a good writer.

Truth be told, not everyone can write. Or at least, not everyone can write well. Often, those who can, don’t really like to write unless forced to do so. And the worst is when you can write and severely want to, but simply cannot. Yup, 666 for a writer: writer’s block. But, blogging makes you fight it all, solve it all.

Once you have a blog, you work towards making it more reader-oriented. For this, you write and write the way your audience appreciates. You also keep a tab on post-frequency. You make sure you write often. And then starts your success story: your blog begins to attract plenty, and gets you steady appreciation. Now all you’ve to do is sustain the reader base you've accumulated. It is this want, this desire to continue your blogging-success story that makes you write, and write, and write.

Common knowledge it is that practice makes you perfect. When you blog, you just write so, so much and so, so often that it becomes a habit. You no more find writing difficult, and more importantly, you no more fear it. You expand your knowledge base, and you build on it. You are more informed, and thus, more confident a writer. Also, as you keep doing things, you keep improving. You learn from your mistakes and iron out flaws the next time you write. You learn from bloggers around you, you draw from suggestions that your readers make.

To draw more traffic to your site, you join forums and social networks. You make friends, and expand your network. You participate in discussions and communities, and you learn the art of voicing opinion and debating. Gradually, you master it. Now no longer apprehensive about putting your thoughts on paper, you are no more scared of constructing your write up.

You are the blogger, the newly discovered writer. Enter the good writer- or possibly, very possibly, the great writer!

HOW TO FACE AN INTERVIEW (IV)

how to face an interview

An essential part of non-verbal communication, body language is often a defining element in interviews. Positive body language goes a long way in conveying a good, suitable impression during an interview.

Here are a few tips that can help you project the right non-verbal message when facing interviews. Make sure you practice them well before facing an interview.

  • The first impression is often, the most lasting impression. So, the first thing that you need to take care of is your attire. Wear neat, clean and well ironed clothes. Opt for cool and light shades. For girls, hues of pink, purple, green and yellow are ideal. Guys can opt for lighter shades of cream, white and blue.

Body odour and bad breath are a real no-no. A few dabs of perfume or a spray or two of a faint deodorant along with a few pieces of mint should do the trick. Never use strong, overpowering perfumes or deodorants. You’ve to just smell pleasant, and not a walking-talking room freshener.

Prepare well and be on time. Reach the venue before hand, relax, have a cup of coffee. Tidy yourself and think about how you are going to perform instead of imagining how to difficult the interview is going to be.

  • When walking into the interviewer’s room, keep your head straight, shoulders erect and exude confidence. Don’t walk in with your head down, shoulders drooped or hands folded. You don’t really want to give an impression of a dejected person, severely lacking in confidence, do you?! Feel confident, and you’ll be confident.

  • If the interviewer offers a handshake, give a firm one. A firm handshake doesn’t mean you try break his wrist. Don’t go too soft either. A cold-fish (mild) handshake indicates fear, hesitation and lack of confidence. Greet you interviewer with a genuine smile and say something appropriate like, “Pleased to meet you.”

  • When you take your seat, relax into the chair. Maintain an erect posture, be comfortable. There’s no point slouching or shifting in your chair. You’ll just end up conveying the wrong impression. Slouching shows your laziness and shifting position may indicate that you are not comfortable with the interviewer.

  • Very often, interviewees fold their hands across their body. Don’t. Folded hands are considered a defensive move, a gesture to feel more secure. Let your hands lie in your lap or on the armrests of your chair.

  • Maintain a friendly expression to indicate positive attitude. Don’t sit as if interviewer is going to rip you apart and swallow you. When answering questions, keep you voice clear and audible. If you don’t understand a question, ask for a clarification. Don’t answer questions with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Always try to elaborate the answer with relevant examples.

  • Make sure you respond with your body language when the interviewer says something. Just a simple smile will do. This conveys your acknowledgment and will also quell the interviewer’s apprehensions or doubts as regards your personality, if any.

5 MUST HAVES FOR BLOGGERS

bloggingIn 5 Must Avoids For Bloggers, we've seen what to avoid doing in order to create a successful blog. This time around, let's see what needs to be done to have a super good blog up and ready!

It is absolutely awesome to have a huge follower list on your blog, isn't it? The big question: HOW? Before that: what really makes a blog a good one- or even better, a great one? One essential factor is traffic. The visitors or e-traffic a blog generates go a long way in determining if or not it makes the cut. The secret, then: the reader is the king, and you do all to get him to your blog, make him hop around reading posts aplenty and you do all to please him.

Now we come to the million dollar question: how exactly is all this to be done?

For that, let’s see it all from the reader’s point of view to decide what needs to be done to attract and sustain readers to a blog. To the reader, a blogger or blog-writer is one person he appreciates for his knowledge in a given field. Once impressed by a blog, the reader shows his interest by accessing it over and over again.

To make sure your blog impresses its readers, you'll need to solely concentrate on your readers. Every thing and any thing that you put up on your blog must be with a steady eye on the readers' needs and interests. Forget about SEO, forget about monetizing your blog. These are not the things that'll make your blog popular. Your readers will. Concentrate on them. And them alone.

Here are 5 essentials you'll need to take care of to make your blog reader-oriented and set it on its way to being a successful blog.

MUST-HAVES:

  • A structured and organized blog hugely impresses a reader. Have a decent template that is properly categorized and easy to navigate. At the end of each post, try having a related posts section where readers can access a bunch of articles on a similar topic. Do not clutter your blog with a million widgets and gadgets. Your reader does not need them, so your blog mustn't have them either. Keep it simple, keep it neat.

  • Why really do people visit your blog? To read. Come up with content that is sure to impress your readers; content that they'll come over and over again to read and re-read. You need to write posts that are not just unique, but also massively useful to your readers. No matter how good a vocabulary you possess, there is no real need to showcase it all in your blog. Use simple and easy to understand language.

Make lists, use images and format posts/articles in a manner such that it is easy for your reader to skim through the post before he actually gets down to reading it in detail. Bold, italicize and underline text that you think needs to stand out amidst the rest.

Use a conversational and informal tone. Write as if you're speaking to your reader. Articles/ posts that you write in this manner will be enormously easy to read. Your readers will also not be taxed when reading them, which means they'll look for more to read on your blog. Guess what this means: yup, they'll spend more time on your blog and in all probability, will keep a tab on all new things you come up with.

Above all, be original. Develop your own style of writing and use it always. Never try to copy another's style and language. You'll be unique only when you be yourself.

  • Okay, so you've chosen a simple and neat template and have come up with quality content. What next, then? Well, write eye grabbing headlines. For every post you make, have a good, attention grabbing headline. A headline which reads Speak Well or Speak With Lots of Confidence will never get as many readers as one like Speak Like a Leader In 6 Easy Steps.

The point is simple: every great post that you come up with needs a great headline to attract readers. Some headlines that you could possibly use, include:

    • How To (whatever you're writing about)
    • The Secret To (whatever you're writing about)
    • 6 Easy Ways To (whatever you're writing about)
    • 5 Must Avoids For (whatever you're writing about)
    • Learn How To (whatever you're writing about)
    • (whatever you're writing about) Made Simple
    • Guide To (whatever you're writing about)
    • Ultimate Guide To (whatever you're writing about)
    • 10 Sure-Fire (whatever you're writing about) That Work
    • 5 More Formulae (whatever you're writing about) That Work
    • 6 Killer Ways To (whatever you're writing about)
    • An Idiot's Guide To (whatever you're writing about)
    • Do You Make These Mistakes When (whatever you're writing about)
    • 4 Mistakes You Never Want To Make When (whatever you're writing about)
    • Little Known Ways To (whatever you're writing about)
  • There is no quick and easy way to make your blog suddenly successful. It doesn't happen overnight, that's for sure. But there are methods you can adopt to make it successful quicker than most others. One such way is to post some of your best content as articles on article directories. What this means is that readers will not need to come directly to your blog to find content. Your blog's content can be made available on a variety of other websites that attract huge amounts of traffic on a daily basis. Readers who frequent these can then access your posts too. What's best is that you get to link to your web page or blog and thereby generate quality traffic.

  • Blog regularly. In order to build and maintain a good reader base for your blog, you'll need to post regularly. Readers must get to read something fresh and good each time they visit your blog. If you've just started blogging, it is imperative that you post fairly quick and have content available for readers as and when they visit your blog. If you don't, then whatever readers you've managed to get to your blog will quietly disappear for lack of fresh content.

If you cannot come up with quality content often, get a few friends or acquaintances to write guest posts for your blog. You could be good with computers whilst one of your friends could be awesome with current affairs. This'll mean that there are many posts authored by different individuals, and on a wide variety of topics. Get on board as many people as you can. Your readers will be treated to a host of reading material which can mean only one thing: they'll, sooner than later, get addicted to your blog!
